The Government of the River Plate (in Spanish, Gobernación del Río de la Plata) was a colonial administration created in 1617 by Spain in the area around the River Plate basin. It had three provinces (Tucumán, Buenos Aires and Paraguay) which were created in different moments.

It was part of the Viceroyalty of Peru until 1776 when its status was lifted and converted into viceroyalty on its own.
