Hardcore Homecoming

From Freepedia

Hardcore Homecoming was a professional wrestling event booked by former ECW World Heavyweight Champion, Shane Douglas. The matches at the event featured former wrestlers from the defunct Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) promotion. The event was held from 8:00pm to 11:55pm on June 10, 2005 in South Philadelphia at the ECW Arena (the home and birthplace of ECW, where ECW had most of its early shows/events), two days before the WWE produced/promoted ECW One Night Stand, held in New York City.

None of the ECW peformers under contract to WWE appeared at the event, though Mick Foley, occasionally appearing with the WWE, made an unannounced appearance.

Unlike One Night Stand, Hardcore Homecoming was not broadcast as a pay-per-view. A two-DVD set of the event was released in August of 2005 through Hardcore Homecoming's website.

Tailgate party

Hardcore Homecoming was preceded by a tailgate party in front of the New Alhambra arena, with several wrestlers in attendance. This was reminiscent of territorial wrestling in the 1980s, when many independent promotions would hold barbecues before and after the event.

Tour

An announcement on the Hardcore Homcomming website states that show will be touring the Northeast throughout September 2005, culminating in a second event in Philadelphia. In addition to the original roster, Rhino and Team 3-D are scheduled to appear.
