Ionian numerals were used by the ancient Greeks, possibly before the 7th century BC. They are also known by the names Milesian numerals or Alexandrian numerals. They are also called alphabetic numerals because the symbols are all letters of the Greek alphabet, including three letters (digamma, qoppa and sampi) that are not used in Modern Greek.
