Jimmy Barnes

From Freepedia

Jimmy Barnes (born April 28 1956 as James Dixon Swan) is a popular rock singer, born in Scotland, but long-time resident in Australia.

He first came to attention as the lead-singer with popular Australian Pub Rock band, Cold Chisel. Since the breakup of Cold Chisel, Barnes has had a successful solo career, with several number one albums and top ten singles.

Barnes is both loved and hated for his unique vocal style. His detractors often say that instead of singing he just screams (hence his name of "Jimmy the screamer" by some of his fans), while the fans point to some of his Cold Chisel work which shows a greater range.

His latest album Double Happiness released in July 2005, debuted at #1 on the ARIAnet Albums Chart. He was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame on the 23rd of October, 2005.

Barnes is also the father of gifted singer David Campbell, who recently starred in the Australian production of the musical Sunset Boulevard and was a contestant on the Australian television program Dancing with the Stars. The two perform the duet "Witcheta lineman" together on Barnes' new CD Double Happiness.
