John Axon

John Axon (d. 9 February 1957) was an English railway driver who died while driving a runaway steam locomotive whose brakes had failed. His actions saved the lives of the passengers on his train.
He was posthumously awarded the George Cross. He was the subject of a famous radio ballad written by Ewan MacColl, Peggy Seeger, and Charles Parker.
