Jose Fernando Abascal

José Fernando de Abascal y Souza (June 3, 1743-July 31, 1821) was a Spanish commander born at Oviedo in 1743. At the age of 19 he entered the army in 1804 was appointed Viceroy of Peru. During his reign the Inquisition of Lima was temporarily abolished as a result of the reforms taken by the Cortes in Spain. In 1816 after being replaced by General Joaquín Pezuela he returned to Spain, where he died at the age of 79 in 1821.
