Joseph of Braganza (full name: José Francisco Xavier de Paula Domingos António Agostinho Anastácio de Bragança), Duke of Braganza, Prince of Beira, Prince of Brazil and presumptive heir to the throne of Portugal as the oldest son of Queen Maria I of Portugal and her King consort Peter III of Portugal.
Joseph was born on August 20 1761 at the Palace of Ajuda near Lisbon and married his aunt Maria Francisca Benedita with no issue. He died when he was just 27 years old on September 11 1788 of smallpox. When he died his brother became heir to the throne and was crowned king as John VI of Portugal.
Joseph is burried in the national pantheon at the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora in Lisbon.
