Lavender Bay, New South Wales
From Freepedia
Lavender Bay is a part of Port Jackson (Sydney Harbour) to the west of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and suburb of Sydney. It lies between Milsons Point and McMahons Point.
It was named after the bosun, George Lavender, from the prison hulk "Phoenix" which was moored there for many years. The bay was sometimes called Phoenix Bay or Hulk Bay
Lavender Bay is also applied to the residential suburb surrounding the bay, is part of the local government area of North Sydney. The suburb has spectacular views of Sydney Harbour, and unlike many parts of the Sydney Harbour area, Lavender Bay is more serene, quiet and peaceful. Before the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Lavender Bay had a railway station, but this is now railway storage sidings. It has a ferry terminal with services to Circular Quay. Beside the wharf there were formerly swimming baths. The suburb contains the North Sydney Anglican Church in its north, a Lower Northern Sydney landmark, and used to be the home of the Lavender Bay Baths (1910).
