Lip enhancement

From Freepedia

Lip enhancement is a type of cosmetic surgery that aims to improve the appearance of the lips by increasing the fullness through enlargement. This particular operation is still considered in it's infancy and the results are often not to the patients liking. For example the "Bow" of the lips is often lost and sometimes numbness and hardening occur.

Following the operation, the patients lips are generally swollen for several days afterward, with discomfort controlled through medication. Touch-up follow-on surgery is sometimes necessary.

Methods

There are three primary means of lip enlargement:

  • Injectable Filler — the lips are enlarged by injecting a filler such as Collagen, Artecoll, and Silicone. The Autologen filler is made from the patient's own skin, often as a left-over from prior cosmetic surgery. Other options are injections of donated tissue, or autologous fat transplantation from another part of the body.
  • Injectable Bio-Catylist — the lips are exposed to a chemical such as Reviderm through injection and this chemical causes the lips to grow larger.
  • Lip Implants — some form of implant, either synthetic or biological (e.g. a cadaver-derived implant) is inserted in to the lips.
