The term lockout has the following uses:

  • Lockout (industry) is a work stoppage in which an employer prevents some or all employees from working, even to the extent closing the business.
  • Lockout (telecommunication) is a system of preventing unwanted signals
  • A lockout is a workplace safety system to prevent activation of heavy machinery while a worker may be inside. A worker places a padlock or other device on the control of a machine to prevent anyone else from operating it and retains the lock's key.
