Lynn Woolsey

Lynn C. Woolsey (born November 3 1937), American politician, has
been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1993, representing the 6th District of California (map). She was born in Seattle, Washington, was educated at the University of Washington and the University of San Francisco, and was a human resources manager and personnel service owner, a teacher at the College of Marin and the Dominican University of San Rafael, and a member of the Petaluma, California City Council before entering the House. In the primary to succeed Congresswoman Barbara Boxer who successfully ran for the Senate, Woolsey, as the only Sonoma County candidate defeated J. Bennett Johnston III, the son of the former Louisiana, future Assemblyman Joseph Nation (who is challenging her in the upcoming 2006 primary), Denis Rice, Howell Hurst, David Strand, Anna Nevenic, David Strand, William Harrison Morrison, and Eric Koenigsho. In the general, Assemblyman Bill Filante was the favorite but he was diagnosed with a brain tumor during the campaign, and was unable to campaign much. Congresswoman Woolsey is the only former welfare mom in the House.
