Manufacturing Execution Systems
From Freepedia
Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) are critical to the success of large manufacturing operations today. These automated systems help control processes, materials, manpower and all the other inputs required for the smooth functioning of a manufacturing unit. Such systems are expensive and involve large levels of automation, sensors, and software. The end result however, is a manufacturing system that is much more responsive to market trends, demand, and inventory levels. The tie-in with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems also ensure minute by minute assesments and decisions to be made about variables such as pricing, quantity, inventory, etc.
MES speeds up processes for the manufacturing sectors by:
- Reducing manufacturing cycle times
- Increasing Inventory and cost tracking, mostly real-time
- Improving Turnover tracking
- Improving quality levels and lesser defects
- Achieving Higher returns on assets
- Improving gross margins and cash flow
- Improving turn-around-times (TATs)
- Integrating with ERP and existing processes
