Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs

The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs is a school within Syracuse University that offers degrees in the social sciences and public and international affairs (at the BA, MA, and Ph.D. levels). It is named for George Holmes Maxwell, a Boston patent attorney who donated $500,000 to the university. The Maxwell School was dedicated on October 3, 1924, and is the oldest of its kind in the United States.

The Maxwell School has been consistently ranked as the top graduate program for public affairs in the country. It is best known for its Public Administration and International Relations programs, and is a member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affiars (APSIA). The school boasts a strong tradition of interdisciplinary research, and offers graduate and undergraduate degrees in economics, history, public management, and public policy, among others.

Many of Maxwell's graduates have moved on to top positions within the U.S. government, including former NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe and former Secretary of the Navy Richard Danzig. The school recently dedicated the Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs, which will provide a multidisciplinary environment to study international and global issues.
