Melpomene
From Freepedia
Image:Melpomene.jpg Melpomene ("to sing") was a Muse in Greek mythology. She was the muse of tragedy, despite her joyous singing. She is often represented with a tragic mask and wearing the cothurnus, boots traditionally worn by tragic actors. Often, she also holds a knife or club in one hand and the tragic mask in the other. On her head she is shown wearing a crown of cypress.
This Muse has embraced tragedy and has surmounted it. While throughout the ravages of time Melpomene has seen tragedy in all forms, out of that tragedy she helps to bring forth the triumph of the human spirit. She will act as a guide, to inspire you to weather the storm.
- There is also an asteroid 18 Melpomene and a street in [New Orleans] named Melpomene.
