Mexico is a town in Oswego County, New York, USA. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 5,181.
The Town of Mexico is in the northeast part of the county. Mexico is also the name of a village in the town. US Route 11 passes through the town.

History
The town was created in 1792 in the Town of Whitestown while in Herkimer County, New York. The town was re-established in 1796, containing a large part of present Oswego County. Subsequently, the town was reduced to form new towns in both Oswego and Jefferson County.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 121.7 km² (47.0 mi²). 120.0 km² (46.3 mi²) of it is land and 1.6 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.34% water.
The northwest part of the town borders Lake Ontario.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 5,181 people, 1,934 households, and 1,388 families residing in the town. The population density is 43.2/km² (111.8/mi²). There are 2,211 housing units at an average density of 18.4/km² (47.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.15% White, 0.17% Black or African American, 0.44% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.19% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. 0.68% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,934 households out of which 38.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.6% are married couples living together, 10.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.2% are non-families. 22.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.67 and the average family size is 3.13.
In the town the population is spread out with 29.4% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.7 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $42,773, and the median income for a family is $46,852. Males have a median income of $38,250 versus $22,183 for females. The per capita income for the town is $17,498. 11.9% of the population and 9.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.9% of those under the age of 18 and 10.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
