Montenegro was founded in 1890 and has a current population of 41,000 inhabitants. Located in the heard of Colombia's coffee zone, Montenegro is also home to the National Coffee Park. Founded by the Colombian Coffee Federation, the park hosts numerous thematic attractions based on Colombian history and the country's thriving coffee culture. The nearest city is Armenia.

It features typical landscapes of the coffee zone, is home to the National Coffee Park (a must-visit for tourists), and the hotel and Posadas infrastructure has increased dramatically in the 2000-2005 period. It is an important tourism and/or convention destination for a relaxed vacation featuring nature-watching and cultural trips (related to the coffee-growing techniques).

Montenegro is located close to Armenia (15 minute drive) and even close to Pereira, a 50 minute drive
