Moorea is a high island in French Polynesia, sister to Tahiti, lying 17 kilometers (roughly 9mi) northwest of Papeete. Several ferries go to Moorea daily, from the port of Papeete, an average trip of forty-five minutes. There is also an small airport with connection to the international airport in Papetee. The flight takes only few minutes.

The shape of the island vaguely resembles a fork with two main bays on the north side of the island: Cook's Bay and Oponohu Bay.

Don the Beachcomber lived here for some time until his houseboat was destroyed by hurricanes.

Moorea actually means "yellow lizard", a name expounded-upon in and many local legends. An older name for the island is Aimeo or Eimeo. I believe the older spelling is Eeimeo
