Mount Faber
From Freepedia
Mount Faber, formerly known as Telok Blangah Hill is a hill about 116 metres in height in Singapore, located within the Bukit Merah planning area within the Central Region. It however, is not the actual hill in itself, and is far larger. It overlooks the Telok Blangah area, and into the western parts of the Central Area. It was known as Telok Blangah Hill until Captain Edward Faber cut through the thick undergrowth, allowing the road to be built, thus renaming the hill after him. The summit is accessible by road, but there are many footpaths leading up the hill.
It is a frequent tourist destination, as it provides a panoramic view of the increasingly dense central business district within the Central Area. On its slope includes a tower that is part of a cable car system that connects to HarbourFront and Sentosa. It is accessible from the HarbourFront MRT Station.
Geography
The area around Mount Faber is covered in secondary [rainforest]], and although smaller and less dense than Bukit Timah, Mount Faber is the second tallest peak in Singapore. Mount Faber probably plays a significant part in the climate of Singapore as being close to the coast would create a rain shadow effect.
