National Astronomical Observatory of Japan

National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) is an astronomical research entity comprised of several facilities in Japan, as well as an observatory in Hawaii. It was established in 1988 as a reform of three existing research organizations, namely Tokyo Observatory of University of Tokyo, Mizusawa Latitude Observatory, and a part of Research Institute of Atmospherics of Nagoya University.

For the reform of national research organizations in 2004, NAOJ became a division of National Institutes of Natural Sciences.

The Mitaka Headquarters, all of the NAOJ divisions, its Public Relations Center, the Astronomical Data Analysis Center, Advanced Technology Center, and the ALMA Office are located in Osawa, Mitaka, Tokyo, Japan.

The Subaru Observatory, one of the NOAJ divisions, is located in Hilo, Hawaii. The Nobeyama Radio Observatory (NRO) consists of two facilities, one for the study of Cosmic Radio and the other for Solar Radio, and are located in Minamimaki, Minami-saku, Nagano, JAPAN. There are two other facilities located in Azumi-mura, Minamiazumi-gun, Nagano and Hosi-go-oka 2-12, Mizusawa Iwate Japan.
