Pampulha Domestic Airport

From Freepedia

Pampulha Domestic Airport or Carlos Drummond de Andrade Airport (IATA Airport Code: PLU), is Belo Horizonte's secondary airport, dealing mostly with domestic flights. In April 2005, the state's government has decided to change most of its traffic up to Tancredo Neves International Airport, due to the fact that Pampulha couldn't support the amount of traffic it was getting. It deals now, mostly, with inner state traffic. Some companies still run interstate flights at Pampulha, tho.

New Name

On November 16 2004, Brazil's president Luis InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva has changed the airport's name, oficially, to "Aeroporto de Belo Horizonte/Pampulha - MG - Carlos Drummond de Andrade", in hommage to brazilian writer Carlos Drummond de Andrade, born in Itabira, a city of the state of Minas Gerais. It is a hommage to one of the greatest writers in the history of brazilian literature.
