Peace Pagodas in US

From Freepedia

Peace Pagodas, otherwise known as Stupas, are built to house relics of the Buddha, and are often said to be built upon ashes of the Buddha himself. There have been three pagodas built in the United States, all built under the guidance of Nichidatsu Fuji, a Buddhist monk from Japan. Fuji (1885 - 1985) was greatly inspired by his meeting with Mahatma Gandhi in 1931 and decided to devote his life to promoting non-violence. He began constructing Peace Pagodas as shrines to World Peace. By the time of his death in 1985, he had assisted in the erecting of some 50 Pagodas worldwide

All three Peace Pagodas in the United States were erected using 100% donated funds, tools, and labor.
