Penedo

Penedo is a municipality (município) in the state of Alagoas in Brazil. The population in 2004 is 59,429.

Founded in 1956, this city stays 173Km far from Maceió. There are, in Penedo, many important testimonials of Portuguese and Dutch colonizations and beautiful landscapes. There are many preserved churches built through the 17th century. Some of them are: Igreja de Nossa Senhora das Correntes (Church of Our Lady of the Chains); Catedral de Nossa Senhora dos Pretos (Cathedral of Our Lady of the Blackmen); Igreja Santa Maria dos Anjos (Church of Saint Mary of the Angels).
