Plasmodium knowlesi

Plasmodium knowlesi is a primate malaria parasite commonly found in Southeast Asia. It causes monkey malaria but may also be acquired by humans either naturally or artificially. It is spread by anopheline mosquitoes and it reproduces asexually within the red blood cells.
