Prithvirajaraso

Prithvirajraso is a biography of Prithviraj Chauhan, the last Hindu ruler of North India in the 12th century AD. It was written by Chand Bardai, the court poet and adviser to the king who accompanied him in all his battles. Chand Bardai belonged to the community of record keepers, poets and scribes called Charans who accompanied Hindu Rajput armies to encourage and exhort the warriors to bravery in battle by reciting the great deeds of their illustrious clan forebears.

The original copy of Prithvirajraso is not extant today. The currently available copy has been been slowly modified over the years may with corruptions, interpolations and later additions. Nevertheless, it has always been a popular book with Hindus.
