Protandry

Protandry is a form of sequential hermaphroditism where organisms begin life as males and then change into females. It may be advantageous for males to make the transition once they have achieved a certain size since larger females are capable of taking care of a higher number of offspring. Smaller males are quite able to fertilize females eggs.
