Quensland University of Technology (QUT) is one of Australia's largest universities, and Queensland's largest by enrolment with 40,000 students, including 4500 international students from over 90 countries. QUT is located in Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland. Brisbane has a subtropical climate and is safe, friendly and multicultural.
QUT is known as "a university for the real world". It maintains close relationships with employers and professions and these partnerships keep the University's education and research relevant to industry needs. Accordingly, QUT courses contain a balance of both theory and practice. In Australia, QUT is one of Australia's largest providers of bachelor-degree graduates into the full-time workforce.
Statistics (in 2005) show that Queensland University of Technology has the highest graduate employment rate of any university in Queensland, as well as being the largest provider of bachelor degree graduates into full-time jobs in Australia. The most recent figures from the Graduate Careers Council of Australia show that of those available for full-time employment, 87.4 per cent of QUT degree graduates had found full-time employment within a few months of course completion.
QUT belongs to the Australian Technology Network.

History
QUT's history can be traced back to Brisbane's Central Technical College, established in 1908 at Gardens Point, which in 1965 became part of the Queensland Institute of Technology. The Kelvin Grove, Kedron and Carseldine campuses of the old Brisbane College of Advanced Education were incorporated as campuses of the Queensland Institute of Technology in 1988. The Queensland Institute of Technology became the Queensland University of Technology in 1989.
This change to that of being a university was independent of the Dawkins reforms, and so it would have happened in the original system, in which institutions had to earn the rank of university through excellence of teaching and research.
QUT was the first university in Australia to form a Faculty of Information Technology. In 2001, QUT was the first university in the world to introduce a Creative Industries Faculty.

QUT has four main campuses: Gardens Point The Gardens Point campus is located on the Brisbane River in the city centre, next to the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens and Queensland Parliament House. The Brisbane Graduate School of Business and the QUT Cultural Precinct are located within this campus, which includes The Gardens Theatre and the QUT Art Museum.
Kelvin Grove The Kelvin Grove campus is situated on a beautiful hilltop, located only two kilometres or 10 minutes north of the city centre. The campus is home to the new Creative Industries Precinct, which boasts two university performance spaces (The Loft and The Block), the creative writing and cultural studies discipline, and animation, fashion, film and visual arts studios. The Precinct is also home to the La Boite Theatre Company and other businesses.
Carseldine The Carseldine campus is located in a bushland setting, 13 kilometres or 30 minutes north of the city centre, easily accessible by train and bus and with plenty of car parking.
Caboolture Situated halfway between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, the Caboolture campus is one of Australia's newest and exciting higher learning institutions, providing social, economic and cultural benefits for Caboolture and the surrounding region.
Gardens Cultural Precinct
QUT's centre for the arts, the Gardens Cultural Precinct, provides a creative focus for the people of Brisbane at one of the city's most historically important sites.
The QUT Cultural Precinct, which includes The Gardens Theatre and the QUT Art Museum, is strolling distance from the CBD and close by the beautiful City Botanic Gardens and historic Old Government House, which was built for the first Governor of Queensland, Sir George Bowen.
Complemented by the surrounds of the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens, Gardens Theatre is the only theatre complex operating in the heart of Brisbane city. This versatile, medium-sized venue has been a welcome addition to Brisbane's diverse cultural lifestyle.
Formerly known as the Basil Jones Theatre, the original auditorium and front of house underwent extensive renovation, with assistance from the Queensland Government.
Opened by the Hon. Peter Beattie MP, Premier of Queensland in September 1999, Gardens Theatre provides an intimate auditorium for QUT Creative Industries' productions in drama, dance, music and communication design, in addition to work presented by a wide range of visiting Australian and international companies.
The QUT Art Museum presents the university's nationally significant art collection, which focuses on contemporary Australian art, particularly paintings, prints and ceramics. QUT Art Museum is located on the ground level of the University's main administration building at the Gardens Point campus, next to the City Botanic Gardens and a short distance from Brisbane's central business district. Its manageable and friendly scale, diverse exhibitions of contemporary art and convenient location, make it an increasingly popular venue for visitors.
Housed in a 1930s neo-classical revivalist building, QUT Art Museum was designed by Peddle Thorpe Architects, Brisbane, and opened to the public in May 2000. The Museum displays the finest works from the QUT Art Collection and thought-provoking temporary exhibitions in elegant, world-class facilities. Innovative exhibitions by students and staff from QUT's Creative Industries Faculty and QUT's School of Design and Built Environment are also showcased.
Creative Industries Precinct
The Creative Industries Precinct is Australia's first site dedicated to creative experimentation and commercial development in the creative industries. It provides a unique opportunity for designers, artists, researchers, educators and entrepreneurs to easily connect and collaborate with others to create new work, develop new ideas and grow the creative industries sector in Queensland.
Working closely with partners from government and industry, QUT steps up as a national leader in the development of creative industries in Queensland and Australia and is set to become an internationally-networked hub of creative enterprise.
The $60 million site boasts some of the most advanced digital facilities to support the creative work undertaken and some of the most exciting partners in identifying the next generation of ideas.
Located on the western fringe of Brisbane's Central Business District, the Precinct is the lead site of a 16 hectare Kelvin Grove Urban Village. Over the next five years, QUT and the Department of Housing will develop the site as a multi-user residential and retail village. More than 800 units from low-cost student to affordable accommodation and penthouses with city views will be developed alongside a range of retail outlets including a supermarket, restaurants and cafes. The Creative Industries Precinct is a destination for local, national and international productions, exhibitions and events which ideally showcases emerging digital and new media work. Clustered around the Precinct's cafe hub, interactive exhibition spaces, an experimental black-box theatre, a parade ground and outdoor terraces ideal for multi-media performance, presents an expansive program of exhibitions, live performance, screenings, festivals and seminars. The Precinct also boasts Australia's largest billboard - 45m x 9m - exhibiting public artwork from some of Australia's most prolific artists and designers.
