r/K selection theory is a set of descriptions of a species's reproductive behaviors, concerned with modeling the amount of offspring as well as the nurturing aspect of the species to those offspring. Species that breed in much larger numbers due to external factors, such as a changing environment, are called r-selection species, while species that reproduce less, but must compete for resources in a more static environment are called K-selection species.
