Resende is a municipality/county in the state of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
It was founded in 1744 by Simão da Cunha Gago and was called Nossa Senhora da Conceição do Campo Alegre da Paraíba Nova. The indians called it Tiburibá. On September 29, 1801, it was renamed Resende, after the act of 13rd vice-regent of Brazil and 2nd Conde de Resende, General José Luís de Castro.
The Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras (AMAN) is an institution located in Resende.
Its main economy of Resende is coffee in the agricultural sector, uranium refining and truck manufacturing which includes a Volkswagen .
Its geography include Serra do Mar and Pico de Itatiaia, Rio Paraíba do Sul as its river. The touristical attractions includesVisconde do Mauá.
