Roza Otunbayeva

From Freepedia

Roza Otunbayeva (born 1950) is a Kyrgyz politician and diplomat. She has served as foreign minister of Kyrgyzstan on several occasions, and is probably the most prominent female politician in Centra Asia.

Otunbayeva first served as foreign minister under Kyrgyzstan's first post-Soviet leader Askar Akayev briefly during 1992 and again from 1994 to July 1 1997. After this she broke with Akayev and became an important opposition leader.

Otunbayeva was appointed as acting foreign minister in March 2005, immediately following the Tulip Revolution in which Akayev was overthrown. She was dismissed in September 2005, following parliamentary and presidential elections. Though most of the acting cabinet was able to stay on under the new prime minister, Feliks Kulov and Otunbayeva was at first nominated to stay on by Kulov, she proved to be too controversial to be confirmed by the Parliament and was eventually dropped by the government.
