San Benedicto Island

Image:San Benedicto Island.jpg San Benedicto, formerly San Tomás, is the third largest island of the Revillagigedo Islands, located at 19°19'N, 110°49'W. It is 4.8 km by 2.4 km in size, with an area 10 km². It is of volcanic origin. It has two prominent peaks. The tallest peak, Bárcena, rises to a height of 310 meters near the southern part of the island. It forms a typical volcanic crater. Barcena's only historic eruption began on August 1 1952 and continued to about February 24 1953. The eruption destroyed much of the flora and terrestric fauna. Image:Barcena.jpg
