Santos Ltd. is Australia's largest oil company. Incorporated on 18th March, 1954, the name is derived from an acronym for South Australia Northern Territory Oil Search. Following a number of great oil and gas discoveries in Australia's outback, Santos expanded internationally to countries like the United States of America and the United Kingdom. A recent publishing by Santos Ltd. indicates an increase in production of 12%, and increase of revenue by 26%, in comparison with the second quarter to 30th June 2004. By the end of 2003, Santos had a market capitalisation of $4.0 Billion, making it one of Australia's top 50 companies.
Santos is involved in many Australian community activities, such as the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
