Second Serbian Uprising
From Freepedia
Second Serbian Uprising took place in Takovo on April 23, 2 years after the First Serbian Uprising had been crushed by the Ottomans. First Serbian Uprising managed to liberate the country for a significant time from Turkey (1804-1813); for the first time in 3 centuries Serbs have governed themselves without supremacy of neither Ottoman Empire nor Habsburg Austria- (see Battle of Kosovo, Srpska Despotovina, Serbian Empire). Despite connections that Karadjordje or Black George has made with Austrian Serbs, Bosnian Serbs, Russians and even Napoleon, Serbian state was reconquered. Large scale revenge and repression that Turks have taken led to another rebellion. (see Cele Kula) The Second Serbian Uprising however has been more productive in terms of diplomacy and efficiency; Milos Obrenovic was more eager to discuss this matter than his collegue Black George was during previous revolution; the result was ackgnowligdment of Serbian Principality by Ottoman Empire, which paid yearly tax to the Porte, but was in most other matters an independent state. Milos Obrenovic, national hero, has become a prince of Serbia; under his grandson Milan Obrenovic, Serbia has gained complete independence.
