Sistema de Vigilância da Amazônia
From Freepedia
SIVAM, the acronym for SIstema de Vigilância da AMazônia (or Amazon Surveillance System), is a complex surveillance system for use monitoring the legal amazon area. This area includes the Brazilian rainforest, allegedly to curb the trafficking of illegal narcotics and to curb illegal logging or burning of the forest. U.S. military contractor Raytheon, a Brazilian company called ATECH, and EMBRAER won the tender to build the SIVAM system, resulting in the EMBRAER R-99. Today, the project had delivered its equipaments and instalations to the Civil House of Brazil, creating the SIPAM, and the Brazilian Air Force, enhancing the Brazilian Airspace Control System. The SIPAM headquarters are located in Brasilia, Brazil.
