Stand! is the 1969 breakout album for the soul/rock/funk band Sly & the Family Stone. Featuring the most familiar incarnation of the band, and including landmark songs such as "Everyday People," "Sing a Simple Song," "I Want to Take You Higher," and "Don't Call Me Nigger, Whitey," Stand!, the band's fourth album, went on to sell over three million copies. It became one of the most successful albums of the 1960s, and launched Sly Stone and his bandmates into the pop music mainstream.
Stand! is considered one of the artistic high-points of the band's career, offering up-tempo, songs in "Sing a Simple Song" and "I Want to Take You Higher", messages of encouragement in "You Can Make It If You Try" and "Stand!", and political and social commentary tracks in "Everyday People" and "Don't Call Me Nigger, Whitey."
