Sum 41
From Freepedia
Sum 41 is a Canadian punk rock band, from Ajax, Ontario, formed from members of local rival bands, 41 days into the summer of 1996. They signed a record deal with Island Records in 1999 and released their hair-metal/punk fusion album Half Hour Of Power and their second album All Killer No Filler came next, with Sum 41 releasing several international hit singles beginning with 2001's "Fat Lip". Does This Look Infected?, a more heavy punk album, came next, followed by Does This Look Infected Too?, a live bonus EP. The bands newest album, Chuck, is a mix of much heavier songs such as "The Bitter End", and slower fillers such as "Pieces".
In 2003, lead vocalist Deryck Whibley was rumoured to have had a intimate sexual relationship with hotel heiress/model Paris Hilton and is claimed to have released a pornographic movie over the internet with her, but he is now engaged to marry Avril Lavigne, while drummer Steve Jocz was said to have had a relationship with Paris' The Simple Life co-star Nicole Richie. They also did a song called "Little Know it All" with Iggy Pop on Iggy's new album Skull Ring.
Sum 41's album Chuck was released on October 12, 2004, and the first single from the album was "We're All To Blame". The album is named after one Mr. Chuck Pelletier, a United Nations peacekeeper who saved the lives of the band and 40 other civilians while the band was recording a documentary about the war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for War Child Canada. War Child is planning to release the video, but the release date is unknown at this time.
The song "Still Waiting" (from Does This Look Infected?) appears as the theme song for Obscure, a survival horror game from Hydravision published by MC2-Microïds for PC and console platforms in 2004. "We're All To Blame" appears in the movie Godzilla Final Wars (2004), played during a battle between the Japanese Godzilla and his Hollywood counterpart in Sydney, Australia. "Noots" (from Chuck) appears in the movie (and the album soundtrack) Fantastic Four (2005). A new album is expected to be released sometime in 2006.
Also, Sum 41 is rumored to be featured in an upcoming commercial for Motorola's (yet to be released) iTunes-enabled phone.
In June of 2004, Sum 41 was in Congo filming the half-hour MTV documentary called ROCKED: Sum 41 in Congo, which will air on September 21 on MTV. The documentary describes the band’s ten-day trip to the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo with War Child, a Canadian charity that provides humanitarian assistance to children affected by war. The special also tracks the band’s much-publicized evacuation from Congo, assisted by Canadian peacekeeper Chuck Pelletier, whom Sum 41 named their latest album after. More than 3 million people have been killed in the Congo in the past 6 years.
