Super Bowl XLII
From Freepedia
Super Bowl XLII will be the 42nd Super Bowl, the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL) between the National Football Conference (NFC) and American Football Conference (AFC) champions. The game is scheduled to be played on February 3, 2008 at the Cardinals Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, which will open in 2006. The game will be televised on Fox.
In the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks, NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced the idea of holding Super Bowl XLII in either New York or Washington, D.C. as a way of helping both areas rebuild economically. However, there were several factors that caused both cities to be rejected:
- The proposed renovations to Giants Stadium were still being disputed among its stadium representatives.
- The New York Jets had not yet finalized the new West Side Stadium deal with the city.
- NFL owners preferred the warmer climate of Arizona over Washington's.
Trivia
- This will be the second time that the Phoenix, Arizona area will host a Super Bowl game. Super Bowl XXX took place in nearby Tempe's Sun Devil Stadium.
