Symphony No. 100 (Haydn)

From Freepedia

Symphony No. 100 or the Military, was written in 1794 by Joseph Haydn. It was one of the twelve London Symphonies wrote during his two trips to England.

The nickname "Military" is given because Haydn uses many instruments associated with Turkish military music. The piece also features trumpet fanfare which might be another reason to be nicknamed "Military".

The Music

The work is in four movements: in the usual arrangement (fast movement, slow movement, minuet, fast movement) for a classical-style symphony:

  1. Adagio; Allegro
  2. Allegretto
  3. Menuetto: Moderato
  4. Presto
