Thomas Pitt, 1st Earl of Londonderry

Colonel the Right Honourable Thomas Innes Pitt, 1st Earl of Londonderry; born circa 1668, second son of Thomas Pitt, of Boconnoc, and an uncle of William Pitt the Elder.

Member of Parliament for Wilton, 1713 to 1727. Colonel of the Princess of Wales's Own Regiment of Horse, 9 February 1715 until 1726. Married 10 March 1717 to Lady Frances Ridgeway, daughter of the late Robert Ridgeway, 4th Earl of Londonderry, and had issue, two sons and one daughter. Created Baron Londonderry, in the Peerage of Ireland, 3 June 1719. Colonel of Prince George of Denmark's Regiment, 26 August 1726 until his death. Created Viscount Gallen-Ridgeway and Earl of Londonderry, 8 October 1726, again in the Peerage of Ireland. MP for Old Sarum, 1727 to 1728. Appointed Governor of the Leeward Islands, August 1728, which office he held until his death, 12 September 1729, when he was succeeded in his peerages by his eldest son Thomas.
