Totentanz (Liszt)

Totentanz is the name of a symphonic piece for solo piano and orchestra by Franz Liszt (1849), which famously quotes from the Gregorian chant melody for the Dies Irae. Most likely Liszt got the idea from Hector Berlioz, who used the same tune in the much more famous Symphonie Fantastique (1830). Liszt also arranged this piece for piano alone.

Totentanz is German for Dance of the Dead. It is the name of a peom by Goethe Liszt's symphonic poem is with regard to this piece.
