Tottenham Hale station opened on 15 September 1840 as "Tottenham" on the Northern & Eastern Railway line from Stratford to Broxbourne.

It became an interchange station and was renamed Tottenham Hale on 1 September 1968 with the opening of the first stage of London Underground's Victoria Line.

There is only a limited timetabled service calling at both Clapton and Tottenham Hale.
