Turner Entertainment

From Freepedia

Turner Entertainment Company was established August 4, 1986 to oversee Turner Broadcasting's film library after its acquisition of MGM/UA. In addition to the studio, Turner got its library, which included all of MGM's films, Warner Bros.' pre-1948 releases, a majority of the RKO Radio Pictures library, and some United Artists material. Turner later re-sold the studio, keeping the library.

Turner Entertainment also played a huge part in film preservation and restoration, thus such classic films as Casablanca, King Kong, Easter Parade, and the original The Jazz Singer, can continue to be seen today via its TBS Superstation, TNT, and Turner Classic Movies cable channels, as well as in revival movie houses and home video. The films are also internationally distributed and shown by many channels around the world.

Today, as part of Time Warner, Turner Entertainment continues to oversee its inherited prized properties, which also includes Gilligan's Island, The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, and Tom & Jerry.

The Logos

In 1987 they first started using a green globe. On a blue/purple gradient CGI starfield, an oblong blue marquee with gold trim (with the word "Turner" in a silver fancy font and the right arm of the T extended over the other letters, and the left arm curled; this is the same as the Turner print logo) moves in, close to the screen from the right. The camera turns left to follow it, and it approaches a green globe, like a planet or moon, positioned in the top left and lit from there and behind. As it approaches, it zooms out and turns its left side (the camera's right) in away from the camera, eventually settlling in front of the globe as the camera movement stops.

They used a triumphant 10-note orchestral fanfare with a flourish but they also used animated computer-generated imagery.

Next they used a rainbow version.wo trails of rainbow colors come in from the left and right of the black screen and move towards each other. You can barely make out a "TPS" logo in each. When they join, a blue burst of light shines, and when that clears a rainbow "TPS" remains. Below that the words "Turner Program Services" appear in yellow one by one and in small bursts of light.

This logo has merging colours, the burst of light and appearing logo but the music was a dreamy, synthesized tune with shining sound effects and 3 notes at the end of the words that go "down-up-down" and it was similar to the LBS Pan Out.

Note: It use to appear on Captain Planet in the early 1990s and many game shows.

After that they made a silver letters version. On a shaded grey screen the word Turner (in white) swings downward into place where under neath it says Program Services. When it got formed, the logo starts to shine.

The makers used sound effects for the swinging Turner and the shining logo along with some mellow orchestral music and a ping sound at the end.

Note: Appeared on Swat Kats on Cartoon Network and the old Wonder Years reruns.
