Type species

From Freepedia

In zoological nomenclature, a type species is "The nominal species that is the name-bearing type of a nominal genus or subgenus."

In botanical nomenclature, the phrase "type species" is used, unofficially, as a term of convenience for the species that includes the type of a genus. In the ICBN the phrase "type species" has no status.
