The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-E) is a Sovereign class starship in the Star Trek fictional universe. It is the primary setting for three movies starring the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation: Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, and (with numerous modifications), Star Trek: Nemesis. It is one of many ships to carry the name Enterprise, and one of at least two in the late 24th century.

This vessel was launched on stardate 49827.5 (2372) from San Francisco Shipyards under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, a year after the events of Star Trek: Generations and the destruction of the Enterprise-D, and a year before the events of Star Trek: First Contact and the Battle of Sector 001.

In 2375, the Enterprise-E prevented an attempted relocation of the Ba'ku people from their homeworld in the Briar Patch (an unstable, colourful region of space full of false vacuum fluctuations, nebulas, metreon gas clouds, plasma fields, numerous supernova remnants, and unusual space anomalies) of Federation Space by the Son'a, an offshoot of the Ba'ku that left the homeworld a century earlier; the events of Star Trek: Insurrection.

Four years later the Enterprise-E (slightly modified) was featured in Star Trek: Nemesis, when a renegade clone of Jean-Luc Picard took control of the Romulan Star Empire and threatened the destruction of Earth. During this mission, the Enterprise-E was severely damaged, including having its bridge exposed to space and part of its primary hull destroyed due to a collision with Shinzon's vessel. This required the vessel to undergo extensive repairs afterwards.

Due to the fact that this Enterprise was launched and commissioned so quickly following the events of Star Trek: Generations and the destruction of the Enterprise-D many fans speculated that this ship was originally a different vessel which was hastily renamed Enterprise while still under construction. However, this has neither been substantially confirmed or denied by any canon Star Trek film or show. According to the licensed (but non-canon) novels based upon Star Trek, original Enterprise engineer Montgomery Scott helped in the design of the vessel, but this has not been suggested on-screen.
