U 137
From Freepedia
U 137 was a Soviet Whiskey class submarine that ran aground only 10 km from Karlskrona, wich holds one of the larger naval bases of the swedish fleet, on the East coast of Sweden October 27 1981. At the time the incident was generally seen as a proof of wide spread Soviet infiltration of the Swedish coastline. Today most experts believe the mishap was a mistake caused by incompetence, a possibly drunk crew and faulty technical equipment rather than an attempt to chart Swedish coastal defences. However there is still tempered discussions going on in this subject. The common belief in Sweden itself being that the u-boat was there to spy at torpedo tests being performed by the Swedish Navy.
