The University of Évora (Universidade de Évora) is a public university in Évora, Portugal.

History

There was a university in Évora which operated between 1559 and 1759. Founded in the 16th century by Cardinal Henry, future king of Portugal and Pope Paul IV it was delivered to the Society of Jesus, but it was shut down during the Marquis of Pombal government, because it was runned by the Jesuits. The current University of Évora is working again since 1973 as a state-run university.
