The University of Calabria (Università della Calabria in Italian or UniCal) is a middle-sized state-run university in Italy.
Located in Rende, a small city near Cosenza, in Calabria, the university was founded in 1972. It currently has about 27,000 students, 450 teaching and research staff and about 700 administrative staff.
Campus
The Campus of the University of Calabria was originally designed by Vittorio Gregotti and Dänen Martensson. A distinctive linear structure is its relevant feature. Buildings are all situated along a suspension bridge, that is currently 1.3 chilometres long. As in British and North-American campus, students live in specific residential blocks near the Campus. The whole Campus is swathed in greenery of hills near Arcavacata, a small village at 10 km from Cosenza.
