World Mayor

From Freepedia

World Mayor is a now annual award organised by CityMayors.com, which intends to raise the profile of mayors worldwide, as well as honour those who have served their communities well and who have contributed to the well-being of cities, nationally and internationally. The organisers make it plain that the award has no connection with any city or organisation and is run on strictly non-commercial lines.

Since the beginning of January 2005, more than 550 mayors from around the world have been nominated from the public for the title World Mayor 2005. The choice of the winners is based on the number of votes mayors receive via the website and the quality and passion of comments, which support their candidacies. The nominees include on this occasion Álvaro Arzú of Guatemala City, Ken Livingstone of London and Cesar Maia of Rio de Janeiro.

In 2004 Edi Rama, Mayor of Tirana, Albania, was voted World Mayor by those taking part in the poll.
