Yamakawa Kenjiro

Yamakawa Kenjiro (山川健次郎 Yamakawa Kenjirō, 1854-1931) was the third son of the head of the Aizu clan. He became a member of the Byakkotai, a group of boys aged 15 to 17 years old. At the age of 18 he went to study physics at Yale University under the patronage of the Choshu clan. On his return he was president of Tokyo Imperial University among other posts.
Later Yamakawa was invited to found Kyushu Institute of Technology in 1907.
