Yew
From Freepedia
Yew can mean the following:
- Originally, it referred to the species Taxus baccata (also now called European Yew or Common Yew)
- Subsequently, applied to other species in the genus Taxus
- And also more generally to other genera in the family Taxaceae and the closely related family Cephalotaxaceae
- The name has also sometimes been applied to some species in the superficially similar, but less closely related family Podocarpaceae
Yew is also a variant English transliteration of the Chinese personal name 耀 (pinyin spelling Yào; meaning "brilliance"), most notably used for former Singapore Premier, Lee Kuan Yew.
