Cannaceae |
The Zingiberales are an order of monocots, including familiar plants like bananas and ginger. They are also called the Cannales. There are eight different families:
- Zingiberaceae (e.g. ginger, cardamom, turmeric, myoga)
- Musaceae (e.g. banana)
- Strelitziaceae
- Lowiaceae
- Heliconiaceae
- Costaceae
- Cannaceae
- Marantaceae (e.g. arrowroot)
Zingiberales are sometimes treated as a sub-taxon of the sub-class Zingiberidae. Within this classification the order Bromeliales is also treated as a sub-taxon on the sub-class. That order then contains a single family Bromeliaceae. Modern classifications however prefer to place Bromeliaceae in Poales
